Spring Break for a day, 2022 edition

I’m someone who adores travel and vacation, any sort really, and I’ll take what I can get in that regard. Yesterday was a particularly brief trip to California’s central coast for what we’re calling a “One-Day Spring Break” with our 4 year old son William (& my husband, Adam). We took leave of our regular work week rhythm and did something unusual, which is to say that we took a less than 32 hour jaunt to visit family and the Children’s Museum of San Luis Obispo, aka SLO.

Neither of us paid much attention to SLO growing up (Adam and I were both born and raised in Los Angeles), but now that we’ve spent some time in the college town (California Polytechnic State University is in San Luis Obispo, called Cal Poly) this year we’re pretty taken with its quiet charm and proximity to the ocean. Last month we actually tent-camped at Montaña de Oro State Park - and yes(!) we totally froze - but it was such beautiful landscape that everything managed to balance out.
